OKOWA CONGRATULATES OBASEKI ON ASSUMPTION FOR SECOND TERM
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta has congratulated his Edo counterpart, Mr Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, on their inauguration for second term on Thursday.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba today, Okowa said that Obaseki’s emergence for another term in office was epoch-making.
He lauded Obaseki for his Making Edo Great Again (MEGA) vision which, according to him, will help in the industrialisation of the state and making it an alluring investment destination.
Okowa said that the “pleasant circumstances” that surrounded Obaseki’s new term would spur him to do more for Edo people who massively gave him a resounding re-election against the odds.
He commended Obaseki for his message of unity in his second term address on Thursday, adding that only a united Edo could achieve the greatness it so desired.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I congratulate Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki and his amiable and loyal Deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, on their second term in office.
“The Edo Governorship election of September 19 testified to your undying and patriotic resolve to put the interest of the people before other primordial ones.
“I am impressed and encouraged by your call for a united Edo people going into to your second term in office. The call is germane because no society can develop in an atmosphere of disunity.
“Your MEGA vision will help in the industrialisation of Edo as you work to make it a choice investment destination.
“I am quite confident that your re-election and assumption of office for a second term will pave way for you to do more for the people of Edo in appreciation for their massive support in the re-election,” he stated, and wished Obaseki a successful second term.

DELTA GOVERNOR MOURNS KADUNA EX-GOV., BALARABE MUSA
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has commiserated with the government and people of Kaduna State over the death of their former Governor, Alhaji Balarabe Musa.
The former governor died on Wednesday at 84.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, today in Asaba, Okowa said that Balarabe Musa, a renowned politician and elder statesman, died at a critical period in the country when his voice was needed on serious national issues.
He remarked that the deceased was an astute politician who was of the firm belief that political and economic restructuring of the country was key for progress.
He said the demise of Balarabe Musa was a big blow to his family and the entire people of Kaduna State because he was a man who had constantly called on leaders to always make the well-being of the people the focus of their policies and programmes.
The governor recalled that the departed politician was a staunch Chieftain of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), where he was National Chairman and Presidential candidate in 2003.
“The late Balarabe Musa, a distinguished administrator and man of truth, will be remembered for his patriotic calls for restructuring of the economic and political models the country is currently operating which only empowers a few.
“Upon resignation from active politics due to ill health in August, 2010, Balaraba Musa was of the firm belief that the aspirations of Nigeria could be achieved if leaders and followers resolved to play their parts conscientiously and patriotically in nation-building.
“He will be deeply missed by all and sundry whose lives he affected in many ways, especially the “talakawas”, whose course he fought in his brand of politics.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta, I mourn with the family of the late Balarabe Musa, the government and people of Kaduna State and the PRP nationwide,” Okowa said.
He prayed that God would forgive his short comings and grant him eternal repose.

DSPHCDA SEEKS COLLABORATION FOR YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION CAMPAIGN

Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency (DSPHCDA) has appealed for collaboration with the Local Government Service Commission and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) towards successful vaccination campaign of yellow fever in Ika North East and Ika South Local Government Areas of the state.
The Executive Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Dr Jude Winful-Orieke, made the appeal today during advocacy to the state CAN headquarters and Local Government Service Commission.
Dr Jude explained the aim of the advocacy visit to the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission was to intimate the commission of the yellow fever campaign which involves the use of health workers of the commission while the visit to Christian Association of Nigeria was to solicit the Church involvement in the campaign as health workers will vaccinate in the Church.
Explaining to the Chairmen in their office, he stated that the State Government has began immediate intervention of yellow fever vaccination in Ika North East and Ika South LGA for persons aged 9months to 44years estimated population of 437,938 as Yellow Fever disease can only be prevented and not cured.
Dr. Jude also revealed that the State Government was gearing up to flag off a State wide yellow fever preventive vaccination campaign as part of the Eliminate Yellow fever Epidemics (EYE) Strategy in the State from 22- 30 November 2020 as Yellow fever is a deadly disease adoption of preventive measures, early treatment and vaccination remain a veritable means of containing the disease.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman Local Government Service Commission Hon. Joseph Otirhue and Chairman CAN Apostle Dr. Sylvanus Okorote promised to ensure the success of the campaign.

ANIRAH DONATES 15 CLASSROOMS, BORE HOLE TO ETHIOPE MIXED SECONDARY SCHOOL, SAPELE

The member representing Sapele Local Government in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Felix Anirah, has donated 15 classrooms, bore hole, note books, teachers’ desk and electricity to Ethiope Mixed Secondary School, Sapele.
The items which were handed over to the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, brought Joy and praises to Hon. Anirah and the Delta State Government by teachers and students of the school.
Mrs Sicilia Onajite, who led the team, received the donations on behalf of the ministry and advised that this conscious effort of member should not be in vain, and encouraged the students of the school to make good use of the donated items.
She said the ministry was impressed by this feat and thanked Hon. Anirah for his personal donations.
The Principal of the School, Rev. Peter Okpareri equally expressed gratitude for the donated items and said that such effort was what the system needed to take education to the next level.
He promised that his team would put in their best to preserve the donations and work harder to inculcate the needed knowledge to the students.
Speaking with newsmen, Hon Felix Anirah said that he was shocked to see students drinking water from well and sitting on the floor to receive lectures in his first visit to the school, saying that it necessitated his resolve to donate these items.
He said that apart from the 15 class rooms infrastructure that the state government constructed, he was moved to go beyond it by providing the borehole, electricity and about 50 Chairs and Desk for the teachers of the school.
Hon. Felix Anirah also added that he hoped to take care of the enrolment of indigent students in schools across the local government area in the forth coming West African Examination Council (WEAC), noting that many bright students were forced out of schooling due to lack of money to enrol for the examination.
Anirah said that he had a scholarship scheme that catered for a minimum of 10 of such cases yearly.
Students of the school expressed thanks and delight to Hon. Felix Anirah and promised not only to make good use of the donated items but to also maintain and take good care of them.
Present at the occasion were members of the Solid Women for Anirah, Hon. Festus and Pemu, among others.
The highlights of the occasion were the official handing over of the 15 classroom blocks to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education officials and the presentation of notebooks to students of the school by Hon. Anirah.

OKOWA CALLS FOR PRAYERS OVER PROBLEMS CONFRONTING DELTA

The Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has called for prayers over problems confronting the state.
Okowa made the call in an address during his interaction with media practitioners at Press Centre, Government House Asaba, in the last quarter yesterday.
While listing some of the problems that confronted the state, he recalled that Nigeria was faced with the challenges of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, which he said, affected the economy of the World, adding that suffered its consequences too.
Governor Okowa then urged Deltan to adhere strictly to government directives on measures aimed against the spread of the disease and to avoid a further lockdown in the state.
He narrated that the outbreak of the disease was followed by the problem of flooding, which he noted, affected mostly riverine communities in the state.
While listing the EndSARS protest as another challenge that confronted Nigeria, he disclosed the efforts made by him in getting across youths of Delta State on the protest through town hall meetings.
Governor Okowa also exonerated youths of Delta State from those that were behind the mayhem in Asaba the Delta State headquarters during the EndSARS protests.
He further listed the outbreak of yellow fever in his home local government area of Ika North East as a major challenge that preceded the EndSARS protests.
Governor Okowa however disclosed that indigenes of the affected areas were being vaccinated against yellow fever and that the vaccination exercise would be carried out in other parts of the state to check its spread.
Senator Okowa who commented on the near completed Effurun Technical College in Uvwie Local Government Area, urged the youths of the area to take advantage of the establishment of the college to key into the world of technology.
He also stated that the ongoing Ughelli/ Asaba Road project was dear to his heart.

TWO SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS BURNT TO DEATH IN EFFURUN

Two suspected armed robbers were burnt to death by angry mob in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area on, November 11, 2020.
The suspected armed robbers were believed to be among a 3-man gang operating in commercial tricycles (keke) terrorizing Uvwie and Warri South Local Government Areas otherwise known as Awala boys.
One of them was said to have luckily escaped the jungle justice of the angry mob.
It was gathered that the suspected hoodlums had unleashed terror on law-abiding individuals including a lady who operates a POS in Effurun
It was further gathered that they were also said to had severally stabbed another young lady after dispossessing her of valuables to the annoyance of the angry mob who gave them a hot chase with the cooperation of other keke riders
The hoodlums ran out of lock when they could not scale through the traffic hold up at Refinery Junction, by Effurun-Sapele caused by the traffic lights.
It was alleged that an AK 47 with and other ammunition were found in their possession when they were caught at about 10: 00 am.
The angry mob wasted no time in sending Awala boys to the great beyond in flaming used tyres.

THUNDER DESTROYS GOODS, PROPERTY IN WARRI

Goods and property worth millions of naira were destroyed by a thunder that struck during a down pour in the Warri Garage area in the mid morning of Wednesday, November 11, 2020
Though no life was lost, but the service systems of a popular commercial bank and a filing station as well as scores of electric and electronic appliances were completed destroyed by the thunder
The said commercial bank and filing stations were closed for business just as some residents and owners of business outfits were seen lamenting the effect of the thunder strike on their goods and property, as at the time of filling this report.
